LOS ANGELES 2028 HIRES NSMN BOARD MEMBER & SOCCER INDUSTRY VETERAN KATHY CATER AS CHIEF REVENUE OFFICER

LA 2028 and U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Properties announced sports executive Kathy Carter will lead the commercial joint venture between LA 2028 and the U.S. Olympic Committee. In her role as the joint venture's Chief Executive Officer and LA 2028’s Chief Revenue Officer, Carter will drive efforts to achieve more than $5 billion in revenue including domestic sponsorship, consumer product, hospitality and ticket sales. 

Carter will lead the organizing committee in harnessing LA’s culture of creativity and optimism and developing a brand story that showcases the very best of what the City of Angels has to offer.

The commercial joint venture will highlight LA 2028’s unprecedented opportunity to inspire the next generation, benefit local communities, and re-imagine the future of the Games. Carter will oversee a team of people across Los Angeles, New York and Colorado Springs.

“Kathy’s depth of experience driving successful marketing and investment strategies in large sports organizations will serve LA28 well as we work to build an engaged fan community and support athlete dreams,” said LA 2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman. “She is an exceptional leader and I couldn’t be more proud to welcome to her to the team.”

NASCAR PROMOTES NSMN BOARD MEMBER STEVE PHELPS TO PRESIDENT

STEVE PHELPS, currently NASCAR’s Chief Operating Officer, will take over as president of the organization effective Oct. 1. NASCAR announced Thursday that current President Brent Dewar has elected to step down but will remain with the company through the conclusion of the 2018 racing season as he transitions to a senior consulting and advisory role in 2019.

NASCAR PROMOTES NSMN BOARD MEMBER STEVE PHELPS TO COO

NASCAR announced that STEVE PHELPS has been promoted to the role of chief operating officer. Phelps will oversee all NASCAR commercial and media operations. This role was previously held by Brent Dewar prior to his promotion to president last year. Phelps will be based out of NASCAR’s headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“Steve has worked passionately over the years to lead the sport and it’s clear his impact is felt in all corners of the industry,” said NASCAR President Brent Dewar. “We could not be more thrilled for him to step into the pivotal role of COO and we look forward to welcoming him back to Daytona Beach, where he’ll continue to work closely with myself and the other members of the executive leadership team, including the Board of Directors.”

As COO, Phelps will have broad influence on the sport. His direct reports will be Executive Vice President, Chief Sales & Partnership Officer Daryl Wolfe, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer Jill Gregory, Senior Vice President, Broadcasting & Production Steve Herbst, Senior Vice President & Chief Communications Officer Eric Nyquist, and Vice President, Digital Tim Clark.

Phelps joined NASCAR in 2005 after nearly two decades of sports business experience as a senior executive with the National Football League and Wasserman Media Group.
